Be the light you wish to see in the world! Matthew 5:14

October is here, summer is over and the fall colors are more beautiful than any time of the year. Many things to be thankful for, many motives to enjoy each of autumn’s special days. Thanksgiving day is around the corner, Christmas and new year preparations are on their way, everybody gets busy with the preps.

Among many reasons to celebrate this month, there is a feast that celebrates darkness and death, becoming more and more popular around the world. Halloween may have some good family times associated with it, reasons to gather and enjoy good company.

But, does this feast brings any glory to our God, or does it help us fulfill our purpose of being the light of the world? Most certainly not. Should we as Christians take part of it? Maybe some Christians have their own view of Halloween and just use it as a reason to spend some good time with their loved ones.

Christians should not be narrow-minded regarding these feasts, and by that I mean condemning and spending time and efforts fighting against people who celebrate it. We know this world is lost, we were lost too before knowing and trusting Jesus Christ. But now, we are sons and daughters of light, he who is within us is greater than he who is in the world.

1 John 4:4 ”
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. “

Wouldn’t it be a much better use of time and efforts seeing this as an opportunity to get the light to this darkened world? We are overcomers, taken from the darkness and called unto God’s light, we should not fear evil, we should not believe Satan’s lies and stand back just pointing fingers.

Those people out there, that live in the darkness, are loved by the same Creator and Savior as we are(John 3:16). His desire is for all to be saved, for all to come to his wonderful light. We are God’s instruments in achieving this purpose. What a thrilling and privileged position we have!

Would you be willing to be what God made you to be? Would you be willing to see the need behind the smiling faces, behind the vain celebrations?
